Stop by Cashmere's Museum

For Apple Blossom Festival visitors with an interest in archaeology, anthropology or local history, the Chelan County Museum in Cashmere is a must. The museum housed some of the finest specimens of Indian artifacts in the Northwest, said Jim Wilson president of the Chelan County Historical Society. Several new exhibits have been added just in time for the festival. A large petroglyph from the Columbia River, a new collection of local Indian artifacts, and a display of Smithsonian quality minerals and crystals are among the new additions. A collection of oil paintings by Ernest Tonk is on display in a recently constructed Gallery.

The museum's ongoing exhibits include the Pioneer Village, which features 19 restored buildings, set up as they would have been in the late 19th century, and excellent dioramas of local wildlife. For rail buffs, the museum has a section of railroad with a depot, section house, passenger car and a Great Northern caboose. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday; and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. For Apple Blossom Festival, the museum will open at 10 a.m. on April 30 and May 7. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children and $5 for families. Admission for school groups is free when scheduled in advance.
