2001 Lake Chelan Summer Magazine
On your way to Chelan don’t forget to
stop at Pioneer Village and the Historical
Cashmere Museum, located at 600 Cotlets
Way in Cashmere. Whether your visit is just
a short rest stop or a complete tour, you
will find the Pioneer Village and Museum
an entertaining, educational and interest-ing
experience. Knowledgeable volunteers
will greet you, tell about the museum and
village and answer questions.
Pioneer Village, which is part of the
museum, is a surprising jewel that is being
discovered by more and more visitors each
year. Twenty original pioneer structures
make up the village, including a blacksmith
shop, school, hotel, general store, saddle
shop, doctor and dentist office, pioneer
homes, a waterwheel and railroad build-ings.
All the buildings are furnished with
artifacts from the 1800s and early 1900s.
The museum also features thousands of
artifacts. The main level houses one of the
finest collections of Native American arti-facts
in the Northwest, containing thou-sands
of objects dating from 9,000 years
ago through the arrival of the pioneer set-tlers.
In the lower level, you can enjoy the
Natural History Exhibit Hall which in-cludes
dioramas depicting the local land-scape,
plants and animals, an extensive
collection of beautiful minerals from
around the world and displays of North
Central Washington petrified wood and
semiprecious stones.
The museum store has a wide selection
of history books on Native Americans and
pioneers, as well as local arts, crafts and
jewelry.
